About…

Francisco de Bragança

For the last twenty years, Francisco Bragança has dedicated his career to building a Portuguese School of Classical Dressage and Equestrian Art. He has worked to pass on the knowledge and experience he had the privilege and honor to gain from his years being taught by Mestre Nuno Oliveira and Mestre David Ribeiro Telles. “It has been a joy and a privilege to teach some fantastic clients from all corners of the world and some truly special Lusitano horses”. He feels blessed to have so many glorious memories of many wonderful times that will stay with him forever. However, new and exciting projects are coming, and He will be dedicating his time to the agricultural side of the Quinta and the teaching, training, and schooling of the horses. Both his commitment and focus on promoting the art of Portuguese Classical Dressage and his passion for the Lusitano horse remain undimmed and will last forever.

So you will still see Francisco working with, schooling and riding the horses, and maybe even sneaking off into the countryside of the Quinta for a hack. This heartbreakingly difficult decision to step back has been made easier, knowing He is handing over the reins to the very capable, experienced and talented Sergio Henriques.

Magdalena Otto

Growing up in her native Germany, Magdalena began riding as a young girl and was lucky enough to have the opportunity to ride Lusitano horses. Even as a child, she recognized how special these horses were.
Over time she became increasingly fascinated by the temperament and sensitivity of this breed. After studying medicine and working for some years as a doctor, she decided to switch horses from a hobby to a profession. The obvious next step for her was to come to Portugal to dedicate herself completely to the Lusitano horses.

Thus in April 2023, Magdalena arrived at Quinta do Archino stud along with her beautiful Lusitano stallion Mistral to become part of our team. Already
possessing a good knowledge and huge talent, under Francisco’s expert supervision and tuition she has quickly progressed to become an excellent
rider and all-around horsewoman. With her disciplined approach and meticulous attention to detailMagdalena also brings with her great team spirit, sensitivity, and empathy with the horses. Step by step she started giving lessons under Francisco’s watchful eye. Now holding a full rider and trainer position, she is one of the riders in charge at the stud, overseeing students, and teaching clients while continuing successfully develop her dressage career. The lessons can be in English, Portuguese, German, or French and are based on the principles of classical Portuguese dressage. Also working equitation can be part of this experience of the Portuguese classical equitation.
